Common Face Washing Mistakes

There are common face washing mistakes that may be preventing you from achieving healthy, glowing skin, some of which you know and some you probably don’t.

Don’t: Use dirty or abrasive towels to wash or dry your skin.

Using a dirty or abrasive towel to wash your skin is a major face washing mistake. Dirty towels carry bacteria and fungus and using them on your face can cause breakouts and rashes. On the same vein, using abrasive towels to clean the skin can be harsh and cause irritation, dry skin, flaking, or even worsen eczema.

Don’t: Use unwashed hands to wash your face

You should always wash your hands before washing your face because we frequently use our hands for different things like pressing our phones and driving. So, the bacteria and chemicals picked up from these various surfaces can lead to skin irritation.

Don’t: Apply your facial cleanser to dry skin

If you’re going to use a rinse-off facial cleanser, wet your hands and splash your face with lukewarm water before applying the cleanser to your skin. This helps the soap slide more easily across your skin and prevents you from having to use too much. Washing your face with lukewarm water before using your cleanser also helps to loosen up the dirt within your pores without outwardly stripping them.

Don’t: Remove your makeup without cleansing your skin

Makeup wipes are super convenient and great at removing makeup but it’s not quite enough to be your cleanser. Although they remove makeup and dirt, they also leave behind a residue that needs to be removed as well. So, you need to use your cleanser to wash your face right after using your wipes.

Don’t: Wash your face with water that’s too hot or too cold

For facial washing, the best water temperature is warm. Cold water doesn’t effectively remove the daily grime and hot water may irritate and dry out your skin. Warm water helps loosen the dirt, but preserves your skin’s natural hydrating oils.

These steps might seem insignificant but adhering to them might make all the difference and could be the keys to the vibrant, glowing skin you deserve.
